Survivor-Centred MHPSS: Adapting Interventions to Diverse Linguistic, Cultural and Faith Contexts

Published on April 19th, 2026

Overview

This three-day training aims to equip mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) practitioners to design and deliver culturally grounded, spiritually sensitive and survivor-centred prevention and response interventions in contexts affected by conflict and sexual violence.

Through the training, participants develop a shared foundation on key concepts, international MHPSS guidelines and best practices and survivor-centred safeguarding frameworks, while situating CRSV prevention and response strategies within intersecting forms of violence, including GBV in communal and domestic life.

As opposed to typical MHPSS courses, this course encourages participants to explore international MHPSS frameworks alongside local and cultural understandings of mental health and community support resources. It also integrates spiritual dimensions of trauma and spiritual abuse and other spiritual anxieties that may hinder survivor coping and healing to support more contextualised and linguistically-appropriate responses. The training examines the role of social and religious norms in shaping community dynamics and survivor experience, offering practical guidance on engaging faith and cultural actors.

Lastly, the course introduces tools for designing and evaluating MHPSS interventions for the preventing and response to CRSV/GBV, including theories of change and impact frameworks, and uses interactive methods such as case studies and systems mapping to support applied learning and practical skills-building.

Price and T&Cs

Our trainer fee is £200 per 90 minutes of delivery, but this does not take into consideration preparation time and internal administrative costs. Each training’s cost differs according to how bespoke the client would like it to be, the additional preparation or research it may require, translation or delivery in other languages, and other factors.

We recommend that courses should have a duration of at least 3 hours to achieve in-depth analysis, interactivity and learning outcomes. Courses are delivered online by the IDVRM team and affiliated specialists. The specific trainer/group of trainers can be agreed with the client at the time of curating our services.

All courses are online and limited to 15 participants. It is possible to expand participation and course duration, but this will be reflected in the price to capture additional time of preparation, number of trainers and training duration.

Courses can be delivered in person, but in that case, clients must provide a venue and reasonable travel and accommodation arrangements for the trainer(s). If delivering the course requires international travel, the cost must be covered by the client and sufficient time must be allowed for travel arrangements to be made.
