Adopt the Project dldl/ድልድል Model®
IDVRM span out of the work of Project dldl/ድልድል in Ethiopia and the UK. The Project employed a novel evidence-based, interdisciplinary, culturally informed and theologically grounded approach to the resolution of domestic violence, while promoting equitable collaboration and two-way knowledge exchange between Europe and Africa to address epistemic and structural inequalities.
At IDVRM we take this legacy further. We are dedicated to developing and strengthening community-led, culturally resonant and faith-sensitive responses to domestic violence and gender abuses in religious, ethnic minority and migrant contexts. We seek to disseminate the Project dldl/ድልድል Model® of collaboration and co-creation in domestic violence and gender-based violence (GBV) responses to more practitioners, organisations and geographies.
What is it?
The Project dldl/ድልድል Model® is a novel approach for responding to domestic violence and GBV that acknowledges and challenges the historical biases in how GBV has been researched, theorised and addressed in development, humanitarian and migration settings
A community-grounded, evidence-based, culturally-embedded and theologically-informed approach to understanding GBV experiences and responding to them within communities’ own belief systems and realities
How does it work?
It proposes that GBV research and interventions must be culturally embedded, theologically informed, decolonially reflexive, collaborative, interdisciplinary, evidence-based, transboundary, participatory and hands on.
It encompasses processes, mechanisms and structures to further each of the eight elements.
These include organisational processes, co-creation frameworks, collaboration templates, community deliberation approaches and public engagement strategies.
