Beyond Borders: A podcast series by the Institute of Domestic Violence, Religion & Migration
Understanding the intersection of domestic violence, religion and migration in an internationalised and conflict-affected world
‘Beyond Borders’ is a podcast series exploring intersections of domestic violence, religion and migration in today’s globalised and conflict-affected world. The series aims to provoke new thinking and questions that can inform practice and policy in responses to domestic violence and interconnected forms of violence internationally, but especially in religious, migrant and ethnic minority contexts. Each short episode features Dr Romina Istratii, Director of IDVRM, in conversation with a specialist guest speaker from academia, domestic violence services provision, policy making and other sectors, who reflect on topical themes. Topics covered in the series include:
- current efforts to improve faith-informed and culturally appropriate domestic violence services provision,
- new directions for developing faith-informed and inter-faith training approaches for clerics and religious leaders to respond to domestic violence in their communities,
- novel developments in faith-based and culturally appropriate counselling and trauma healing approaches for survivors of domestic violence and interconnected forms of violence, including conflict-related sexual violence, and
- urgent questions that emerge at the intersection of faith, cultural socialisation and masculinities, including the effects of pornography on marriage and its relationship to domestic violence.
Through these conversations, ‘Beyond Borders’ hopes to offer a convening space and a knowledge-sharing platform to inspire transboundary and truly collaborative responses to domestic violence and its interconnected challenges in the world.
The episodes will be made available on our website under Our Podcasts page and directly to listen on Soundcloud, Spotify and Apple Music.
